!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , I asked everyone here what their fear was when working on their car. I finally got time at work to go over the responses and list them out. A few surprises popped (including a Miata not being mentioned.) Have a Porsche 911 I took from Oppo awhile ago as well.

for serious "Car Falling of off jack/jack stands while working on it" should be the only fear you have. All else is either something you can learn not to do, or to do better.
One noticeable thing missing is something I used to be fearful of when I had long hair. Also avoidable, but as John Miur said the the Idiots Guide to Keeping Your VW Alive, tuck your hair back in a stocking cap lest you get scalped when it catches in a fan belt, or worse

Ah, the hair thing haunts me too. Also, take off any rings lest you learn the hard way what 'degloving' is. shudder

oh yes that too. I saw a friend in super pain when he whacked his ring finger with a mini sledge...and had a tungsten carbide ring on there. He had to go to 3 hospitals before they found the tools to cut that thing off while his finger kept swelling and turning black. Shudder indeed

Well god damn I guess I need to take off my wedding ring when I'm wrenching from now on.

a good idea. Back when I was married my wife used to get pissed about it but no way I was going to lose a finger

My car gave me claustrophobia from spending a week under it only inches from my face. It is hard for me to spend any time under it without beginning to freak out. Just thinking about it brings back the imaginary pressure on my face.

I forgot to add a breaking something story - was trying to remove a pitman arm with a gear puller. Was not aware that there was such a tool as a "Pitman Arm Puller" available. Got the gear puller to bite, but so tight we couldn't turn it anymore. Put a long pipe on the end of a breaker bar. Finally got enough force on it that one of the bolts holding the arm literally reached it's shear point. With a bright flash, the thing flew apart under pressure and konked me in the head.
After we got back from the hospital with a pitman arm puller, it came apart with like one turn.

For me, having the car fall has always been something I've thought as preventable as well. Anytime I am under a car that is in the air, I have the following setup (most of it has been with a Jeep Cherokee, but some with a 1994 Caprice Classic that was lowered an inch):
1. Parking brake on, wheels choked
2. Jack Stands
3. Wood blocks for secondary stands
4. Jack just below part of the frame/pumpkin of the car if applicable directly to my right to catch a possibly falling car and give me room to move too if it does dropped.
As for the moving fan, I have no idea why, but it just gets to me.

I pack all sorts of crap under the car when going under. I had my last Audi 90 quattro bounce off my chest by my own stupidity that I will not repeat. Broke 3 ribs, would have been my head if it didnt have the wheels on it (I was just checking rear diff fluid). Figured I was under there for a minute, jack let go

505 Degloving is way worse than having your finger swollen....

Same thing happened to my dad. Hit his ring with a hammer, and hops around holding his hand. Luckily, the ring was gold, so he was able to bend it back with his own pliers. He just stopped wearing a ring after that, period.

"4T- Touching something thats hot/fire related incidents"
Adjusting my waste gate while out on test drives, I accidentally put part of my hand on the turbo. That's the first and only time I've been able to smell my skin.
